Other Research

There are two fields which, nearly ritualistically, deliver graduates who believe they can do anything. This tends to involve a reckless disregard fields boundaries, established norms, and anyone else’s feelings. These fields are mathematics and public policy. This is best illustrated by John W. Tukey’s famous quote, “The best thing about being a statistician is that you get to play in everyone’s backyard.” My academic training in math and policy left me doomed to a life of messing around with any interesting idea.

Here I catalog writing and presentations that don’t fit into my primary research areas. This page also includes material from of my nonresearch technical writing, which mostly focused on small IT problems. These will eventually be moved off to another area.
